Who am I?

I am Abhinav Kulkarni. I was born and brought up in Hyderabad, India. To say that I love designing would be a gross under statement. I want to be presented by the quality of my work and what it means, rather than who I am as a person.

I believe that an individual's philosophy should reflect in one's work. The products we create should fit in the big picture of this world. It should leave an effect, an impact. You see, even the tinniest flutter of a butterfly's wing whips up a tornado somewhere. Thus, it is a designer's job to be sensitive about these sort of subtleties, we should keep in my mind the intricate workings of action and consequence. I also love indulging in the art of meaning making. I like to create non rigid concepts that are open to subjectivity and different perspectives. This way I cater to everybody, for laymen, the apparent design would be seen, but under an enthusiasts's scrutiny, the hidden meanings embedded in the layer within would be discerned.

I also believe that it is absolutely important to be in sync with the growing pace of the world. To evolve as better designers, we must incorporate new technologies like 3D printing, biomimicry, artificial intelligence, etc.

I draw inspiration from radical thinkers, like Buckminister Fuller, Dieter Rams, Neri Oxman, Bjarke Ingels, to name a few. I like to read works of Burtrand Russell, Ayn Rand, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Fyodor Dostoyevsky. The most prominent philosophy that resonates deeply with me is that of Jiddu Krishnamurti. I admire his view on the concept of 'Independence' and 'Self'.

I have passion for music. I listen to Jazz and R&B. I love listening to 'The Grateful dead', 'Bob Dylan', 'Eddie Vedder', 'The band', and many other such artists. I am also learning to play the drums.
